Fivefold

Penrose tilings, grown by hand. Start from a sun or a star, cut every tile into smaller kites and darts or rhombi, and repeat. The pattern covers the plane without ever repeating, and the ratio of the two tiles closes in on the golden ratio.

Keyboard: with the tiling focused, + and − step the generation, T switches between kites and darts and rhombi, S switches between sun and star, C cycles the colouring, O outlines tiles one more generation back, and A shows or hides the matching arcs.

Larger tiles

Draws the tiles from that many generations back over the current ones. Each larger tile is cut into the small tiles inside it; a small tile that straddles an outline is made of two halves cut from neighbouring larger tiles.
